Opatija Carnival 2027
Opatija Carnival 2027 opens on St Anthony's Day, January 17, with the raising of the flag and the hanging of Pust, and runs until Ash Wednesday, February 10.
The Opatija Tourist Board has announced Opatija Carnival from January 17 to February 10, 2027. Locals call carnival their "fifth season". It officially begins on St Anthony's Day, when the flag goes up and Pust is hung: the figure blamed for all the misfortunes of the past year.
In its general description of the carnival, the board mentions the Children's Carnival Parade from the market to Slatina, the Balinjerada ball-bearing cart race, Kukalka (a seaside take on the Sinj Alka), a masked klapa marathon and the Maškarani tanac pul Barića dance. Dates, times, locations and prices for 2027 have not been published yet. We will update this page once the programme is out.
