Mahler in Opatija – music matinee
A Saturday matinee in the Centar Gervais foyer tells the story of Gustav Mahler's stays in Opatija, with a selection of symphonic works and art songs, and entry is free.
Mahler in Opatija is part of the Opatija Music Matinees series at Centar Gervais. It looks at Gustav Mahler's stays in Opatija around the turn of the 20th century, the period of his greatest professional and personal success, when he met Alma Schindler, his future wife. Of his first stay, Mahler wrote that his health was improving "by the hour".
Hosts and performers Metod Sironić and Jelena Tihomirović pair the story with a selection of symphonic works and art songs. The list of pieces has not been published.
The matinee takes place in the Centar Gervais foyer, and entry is free. Advent in Opatija is running in town at the same time, and more free events are collected in our free nights out guide.
