Best Bars in Rijeka's Old Town
Rakhia, Stop, Pajol, Three Kings — four bars, a few minutes of walking and one of Rijeka's favourite traditions.
The đir — a slow crawl through the Old Town's bars — is a Rijeka institution: a handful of bars in the cobbled lanes just off the Korzo promenade, each with its own character, all within a few minutes' walk. This is where a Rijeka night begins — over rakija, beer or a cocktail — before moving on to the clubs or, in summer, up to Trsat Castle.
The route: from rakija to cocktails
- Rakhia Bar — start the crawl by the book: homemade rakija (Croatian fruit brandy) in every flavour imaginable, to warm up and raise morale.
- Stop — a small halfway station: a quick beer, an easy-going crowd and always a familiar face.
- Pajol — the laid-back classic of the route, ideal for that "one more, then we move on" moment.
- Three Kings — the finish line with cocktails, before the big decision: club or another lap?
The whole route fits in a few minutes of walking, so the order is up to you — this is a recommendation, not a rulebook.
When to go
On weekends the Old Town is liveliest from 9 pm onwards, and in summer the terraces stretch the evening outdoors. Weeknights are quieter — perfect for a relaxed after-work rakija instead of a coffee.
Where to go next
Thanks to its position right by the Korzo, the Old Town is the perfect first stop: after midnight continue to Nemo (Fridays and Saturdays from 11 pm) or Palach, in summer head up to Trsat Castle, and for Croatian hits there's Concept Bar on Trg Šišmiš.
